Edition 11

This week, we’re doing something a little different.

In the early results from the Inside Chiswick reader survey, one of the clearest requests has been for more local events and things to do. So we’ve acted on it.

Inside Chiswick now has a simple way for local organisers to submit events directly to us. If you’re running a school fair, concert, market, workshop, exhibition, charity event, kids’ activity, open day or community gathering, you can send it in and we’ll review it for the Inside Chiswick events calendar.

The aim is simple: Chiswick has plenty going on, but it is often scattered across posters, WhatsApp groups, Instagram posts, school emails and venue websites. We want to make it easier to find what’s happening locally, all in one place.

The reader survey is still open until 30 June, and everyone who completes it will be entered into the draw for a £50 voucher to spend at The Duke of Sussex. We’ll announce the winner in next week’s newsletter.

Glad to have you with us.

Running something in Chiswick? Send it in.

One of the clearest requests in our early reader survey results was for more local events and things to do, so we’ve opened up the Inside Chiswick events calendar for submissions.

Local schools, venues, charities, churches, clubs, galleries, theatres, markets, fitness studios, pubs and community organisers can now send us details of what’s happening locally, from fairs and fundraisers to concerts, workshops, pub quizzes, family activities and community gatherings.

Submit the details using the button below and we’ll review them for inclusion in the Inside Chiswick events calendar.

We prioritise events that are local to Chiswick, open to the wider community and useful to residents. We may edit listings for clarity, length and house style, and submission does not guarantee inclusion.

Thank you to everyone who has already filled in the Inside Chiswick reader survey. The early results are already helping shape what we do next.

The survey is still open until 30 June. It takes about three minutes, and everyone who completes it will be entered into the draw for a £50 voucher to spend at The Duke of Sussex.

The winner will be announced in next week’s newsletter. It’s anonymous, apart from your email address, which we only use to draw the winner.

With Chiswick heading into a hot start to the weekend, this is one for slower plans, shady corners and not trying to do too much in the middle of the day.

There’s plenty on, from open gardens to riverside markets, with the full run-down in the listings below.

If the forecast is nudging you towards shade and a cold drink rather than a full itinerary, the river pubs make a strong case for themselves. The Bell & Crown, The City Barge, The Steam Packet and The Bulls Head all put you close to the water, and once the worst of the heat passes, Strand-on-the-Green gives you one of Chiswick’s better evening walks.

Here’s the weekend forecast to plan around.

Bedford Park Open Gardens | Sun 28 June | 2pm to 6pm | Start at St Michael & All Angels Parish Hall

A lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Residents open some of Bedford Park's most beautiful private gardens to the public, and you can wander at your own pace with a map from the parish hall. Tickets are £10, children go free, and the afternoon raises money for local charities. It's also the final weekend of the Bedford Park Festival, so there's plenty more on nearby, with all remaining events listed here. Find out more.

The Lazy Flea | Sun 28 June | 10.30am to 4pm | Chiswick House forecourt

The popular vintage market returns with more than 60 traders spread across the House forecourt. Expect a carefully curated mix of vintage homeware, furniture, clothing and jewellery, with street food and coffee to make a morning of it. Dogs welcome, and it's quietest after 1pm if you'd rather browse in peace. Plan your visit.

The Food Market Chiswick | Sun 28 June | 10am to 2pm | Dukes Meadows

A relaxed riverside market in the farmyard setting near Dukes Meadows, with seasonal food producers and plenty to graze on. It's run as a social enterprise too, so your visit helps look after the park. A good early stop before the day heats up. Find out more.

Food St Market | Sun 28 June | 11am to 4pm | Chiswick High Road

Street food, artisan producers and live music in the heart of the High Road, with a few new traders joining the line-up this weekend. Easy to combine with a wander along Chiswick High Road and a proper Sunday lunch on the go. Find out more.

Also coming up next week…

Backgammon for Fun | Wed 1 July | 6.30pm | The Steam Packet

A friendly, free backgammon evening that runs on the first Wednesday of every month, drawing around 25 players each time. All ages and abilities are welcome, from complete beginners to those coming back to the game after years away, with experienced players on hand to help you learn or sharpen up. Players are matched like for like, so you're never out of your depth. Sign up here.

Chiswick Shorts 2 | Wed 1 to Sat 4 July | 7:45pm | St Michael's Centre, Elmwood Road

St Michael's Players return with a second run of short plays, staged with Brighton's Bite-Size and performed cabaret style with tables, chairs and a well-stocked bar. Each piece runs about ten minutes, and the line-up takes in amorous insects, AWOL astronauts, a desperate shopper, a hen do with a twist and two bank robbers on the run. It's also a first go at directing for several members. Strong language and adult themes. Tickets from £10. Book here.

This week’s follow is The Food Market Chiswick, especially if your ideal Sunday involves good food, a wander through Dukes Meadows and perhaps a slower route back by the river.

The market runs every Sunday from 10am to 2pm, with seasonal food producers in the farmyard setting near Dukes Meadows. It is also a social enterprise, with proceeds helping to improve and maintain the park.

In a very hot weekend, that sounds like a sensible Chiswick plan: go early, take a bag, pick up something good, then head for the shade or the riverside before the day properly heats up.

Follow for stallholder updates, Sunday reminders and the kind of food discoveries that make “just popping by” feel slightly optimistic.

Two global names set up shop at Chiswick Business Park
The Park has landed two new international tenants. Japanese pharmaceutical firm Chugai and Chinese car maker Omoda Jaecoo have both taken space in Building 4, part of 50,000 sq ft of new lettings and renewals announced by asset manager Revantage. Omoda Jaecoo's cars are already sold from the Auto West London dealership by Hogarth Roundabout, and its Jaecoo 7 is now the third best-selling car in the country.

Long-standing tenants are staying too. Foxtons is moving within the Park to a larger home in Building 12, and tech firm Amdocs has extended its lease. Welcome news for a campus still sitting at around 80% occupancy since the shift to hybrid working.

Grove Park's front gardens go head to head
The Grove Park residents' group is running its first ever "best front garden" competition, and it's a quiet stand against the creep of paving and astroturf. The brief is refreshingly relaxed. Gardens don't need to be big, manicured or expensively planted. They just need to be in Grove Park and making their mark, whether that's charm, character or being good for wildlife.

There are prizes for the top three, plus a separate award for the most wildlife-friendly plot, all donated by Chiswick Flower Market, the Chiswick Horticultural and Allotments Society and Wild Chiswick. First place takes £100 of flower market vouchers and more. The wildlife winner picks up compost and a bat box.

Gardens need to be visible from the street to be judged. Entries close 30 June, with judging over the weekend of 10 July. To enter, sign up via the Grove Park Group online form or email [email protected].

A summer of music for Bedford Park Festival's 60th
The 60th Bedford Park Festival brought a run of concerts to Chiswick this month, and by all accounts they were a treat. Writing for ChiswickW4, Gerald McGregor sat in the audience for four of them and came away full of praise for the performers and the volunteers who pulled it all together.

The week opened on 15 June with violinist Braimah Kanneh-Mason and pianist Jams Coleman, who carried a Mozart sonata and a programme of duets through the summer heat. Two nights later came "A Shepherd's Song", a baritone-and-strings evening that made the most of the church's acoustics. The festival then moved to St Nicholas Church for "A breath of fresh air", featuring a brand new piece, before returning to St Michael and All Angels for the Ensemble Renard Wind Quintet and a programme spanning Ligeti, Barber and Nielsen.

Beyond the concert halls, the festival's outreach programme sent musicians into local primary and secondary schools to share their work with children. A fitting note for a festival that has been part of Chiswick life for six decades.

The Proud Project is easy to miss from the High Road, but that is part of the charm. The entrance is tucked just off the High Street on Linden Gardens, easy to walk past, but step inside and it opens up into a beautiful, bright and airy studio that feels a world away from the bustle outside.

It's a proper home for movement of every kind. Reformer Pilates, Mat Pilates, Barre and Yoga run seven days a week, from 6am right through to 8.30pm, with Personal Training and Sports Massage on offer too. Classes are small and led by skilled, genuinely encouraging instructors, and the ethos is refreshingly open: whether it's your first time near a Reformer or you're a seasoned regular, the aim is to help everyone feel confident and comfortable. Reviews often praise the warm welcome and the space as much as the workouts themselves.

This week they're highlighting their Summer Menu 2026, a set of flexible class blocks to see you through the season. Credits are valid until 1 September, so you can dip in and out around holidays and hot afternoons:

  • Summer 5 Block · 5 credits · £140

  • Summer 10 Block · 10 credits · £275

  • Summer 20 Block · 20 credits · £540

New to the studio? There's also an intro offer of 4 classes for £69, a gentle way to find your feet before committing to a block.

This is our local guide to where to watch the World Cup, and after Tuesday night’s 0-0 draw with Ghana, England still have work to do.

Next up is Panama on Saturday 27 June at 10pm, which should mean another late, busy night in Chiswick’s football pubs. Expect the usual mix of nervous optimism, tactical debate and people asking whether there’s still time to order chips before kick-off.

If you’re planning to watch locally, book ahead where you can.
